Direct Darshan Summary
Arunachaleswarar Temple is open daily from 5:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Entry is through the Eastern Raja Gopuram or Western Pei Gopuram. Modest traditional attire is strictly enforced. Free general darshan queues as well as special ticket counters are managed by the HR&CE department.
Architectural Marvel of the Agni Sthalam
As one of the five cosmic elements (Pancha Bhoota) shrines of Lord Shiva, Arunachaleswarar represents Tejas (fire). The sprawling temple compound occupies 25 acres surrounded by colossal stone walls and 4 towering entrance gateways (Gopurams):
- Raja Gopuram (East): The principal tower, standing 217 feet tall with 11 tiers, built by King Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara.
- Pei Gopuram (West): The western entrance tower providing direct access to the outer parking lots.
- Ammani Amman Gopuram (North): The northern portal named after a renowned saintess.
- Tirumanjana Gopuram (South): The southern entrance leading toward Chengam Road.
Daily Puja Schedule
The temple conducts six major worship services (Kala Pujas) each day:
- Ko Puja & Ushakkala Puja: 5:30 AM – 6:30 AM
- Kalasandhi Puja: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
- Uchikala Puja: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
- Sayarakshai Puja: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
- Irandam Kala Puja: 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM
- Ardhajama Puja: 9:00 PM – 9:30 PM

Visitor Tips for a Smooth Darshan
- Footwear Safekeeping: Use the official footwear counters located outside the eastern Raja Gopuram or western gopuram entrance.
- Mobile Phones & Cameras: Electronic devices and photography are strictly restricted within inner sanctums. Keep them safely stored or deposited at the designated counters.
- Hydration & Elderly Care: The stone floors can become hot by mid-day; plan visits early in the morning. Wheelchair access is available via selected entrance ramps with security guidance.
