A 2-day weekend trip allows an unhurried pilgrimage: Day 1 covers arrival, check-in, detailed Arunachaleswarar Temple darshan, and evening meditation at Ramanasramam. Day 2 features early morning Girivalam (5:00 AM–9:30 AM), cave exploration, shopping, and evening departure.
Day 1: Sacred Heritage & Ashram Silence
Arrive in Tiruvannamalai by late morning and check into your hotel. Head to Arunachaleswarar Temple during the afternoon opening (3:30 PM). Stroll through the massive stone courtyards, view the Vijayanagara architecture, and complete sanctum darshan. Around 5:30 PM, transition to Sri Ramanasramam for evening Veda chanting and quiet meditation.
Day 2: The 14 km Girivalam & Mountain Hermitages
Wake up early and begin the 14-kilometer Girivalam path at 5:00 AM while temperatures are cool. Stop at each of the 8 Ashta Lingams for darshan. Return by 9:30 AM for a hot breakfast and a refreshing shower. In the late afternoon, take the stone steps up to Virupaksha Cave and Skandashramam before bidding farewell to the holy town.
